Our autumn destination for this year!
Autumn can be one of the most romantic seasons. The warm colors, the crisp air, the special beauty of a cold sunny day.
Autumn in Italy is a show! Many are the destinations to check out during this season, but we decided to follow a precise inspiration: it is the one of the perfect daytrip outside the cities, looking for stories and nature, to find the best sceneries and colors!
So, here’s our ideas to experience autumn at its best: visiting fortress and borghi!
Rocca Manfrediana
Medieval, grand, immersed in nature: the perfect autumn daytrip destination it’s just a little outuside the city of Ravenna (have you ever heard of this town and its incredible mosaics?). The Rocca Manfrediana was built in 1310 and now hosts a museum and historical recreations of the rooms of the castle. The towers offer a mesmerizing view on the valley and the towns nearby, a drawbridge evoke a sense of medieval grandeur. This daytrip destination is a cultural and naturalistic highlight of this region.
Civita di Bagnoregio
“The dying city”. This nickname has a reason: the kind of rock of this hill is particularly crumbly and with time it will eventually be eroded. But for now, the 11 inhabitants and the many visitors can cross this scenographic bridge to get to Bagnoregio, and enjoy a beautiful view on this valley near Rome, get lost in the tiny streets, and dream. Time seems to have stopped here and the autumn colors make it look like a daydream.
Castel del Monte
This UNESCO heritage site, is only 1h away from Bari (Apulia) and Matera (the famous city of stones). It’s located on the top of a hill and was built around the XIII century. Fun fact: it’s pictured on the back of the Italian Euro’s 1 cent. It’s debated what was its original function: a defensive fortress, a prison. But the stunning details, stoneworks and vaulted ceiling indicate that it was also used for leisure activities. The sun illuminates this fortress at all times and its special octagonal shape creates an evocative spectacle.
