Discover what Italy is actually all about
Thinking of Tuscany, the first things that come to mind are: Florence, Chianti, wine. And maybe some other cities or valleys’ name, if you already paid a visit to this amazing region. What is not common for foreigners is to decide to visit the coast of Tuscany, or its islands.
This road tour allowed us to discover the unknown, to enjoy towns and places and to immerge ourselves in the life of its inhabitants. Far away from the classical touristic sites, these spots are still unviolated and raw, without the heaviness of the masses of tourists. Beauty and history are in every corner, like on a wall, in the town of Campiglia Marittima, with all the emblems of the medieval families living there. Or like in Bolgheri, the smallest town you can ever imagine, where you may encounter the statue of THE Italian grandma, Nonna Lucia, grandmother to one of the most famous Italian poets, Giosuè Carducci.
These little towns, nestled on the sweet Tuscan hills of the Etruscan coast, lend a feeling of total harmony and calmness, of absence of rush. They give you a taste of the real Italian feeling of strolling the cobblestone streets, after a rich lunch. If you are lucky enough to visit it on a weekday, you may have the borgo all for yourself and for a few old ladies carrying the groceries.
We were also able to visit local excellences in the wine and oil production, as well as hotels and relais. The common denominator is the great passion for this land, for what it has to offer, for either the products or the care in hospitality, of the strong people who carry out these activities. A simple olive mill, ran by a simple family, can become an experience of tasting and a way of getting to know the Italian oil traditions. A wood table under a small gazebo, can be theatre of the most tasteful, yet simple, lunch, were the protagonist are the basic products, cultivated only few meters away from the table. A relais can make you feel the warm of your own home, while enjoying a complete different scenario from the window.
This is what you get by traveling in Italy and by finding, with us, the authenticity and the Italianity.
