Summer in Rome

Summer in the city: the case of Rome!

Summer in Italy’s cities can feel intense: soaring temperatures, residents escaping to the coast or the mountains, and many businesses temporarily closing for the holiday season. Yet in recent years, local cultural boards and tourism institutions have transformed summer into one of the most vibrant moments to experience urban life.

Long evenings, warm temperatures, almost no rain, and an increasingly international atmosphere create the perfect setting for open-air concerts, artistic performances, night visits, and cultural festivals that allow both visitors and locals to enjoy the city in a slower, more creative way.

Here’s how the Rome summer is unfolding!

“Cinema in the squares”

From June to July, Rome’s beloved open-air cinema festival returns for another unforgettable season. Set in three of the city’s most atmospheric yet often overlooked locations, the programme features free themed film screenings accompanied by special guests, including directors, actors,
and leading figures from the world of cinema.Screenings take place in the charming district of Trastevere, in the evocative Parco della Cervelletta beside a 12th-century castle, and at Monte Ciocci, a panoramic square in the northern part of the city with stunning views over Rome. All films are shown in their original language. Bring a blanket, grab a snack or a beer from the food stands, and spend a magical summer evening under the stars celebrating the very best of the seventh art.

“Alonge the Tiber Rome”

From 5 June to 24 August, Rome’s iconic Tiber riverbanks will come alive with the 24th edition of “Along the Tiber Rome”, one of the city’s most anticipated summer events. Stretching between Ponte Sublicio and Ponte Sisto, the 80-day festival offers a vibrant mix of culture, music, gastronomy and entertainment, featuring 60 market stands, 15 food areas, cultural spaces and over 200 artistic performances. A true journey through creativity, tradition and discoveries from around the world, the event’s stands showcase everything from local handicrafts and fashion to antiques, ethnic products, games and original creations, inviting visitors to explore the lively atmosphere of the Tiber riverbanks.

“Live Santa Severa Castle”

Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the magnificent Castello di Santa Severa is one of Lazio’s most fascinating historical landmarks, where medieval charm meets the beauty of the coast. From 1 June to 30 August, the castle will once again host “Vivi il Castello di Santa Severa”, an extensive summer programme featuring concerts, theatre performances, open-air cinema, art exhibitions and literary events in a truly unique seaside setting. Visitors will enjoy evenings under the stars surrounded by ancient walls, with highlights including tributes to Marilyn Monroe, live music by renowned Italian artists, family-friendly entertainment, wine tastings and guided tours of the castle, the medieval village and the iconic Saracen Tower.
